Again this year ill return to my favorite conference in eastern Europe, the Java2Days conference in Sofia, Bulgaria, where I'll give my talks on multi client development with Spring MVC and on getting started with Cloud Foundry, the open source PaaS from VMware. If you're in the region (Turkey, Greece, Armenia, Bulgaria, etc.), then join
My talk from JavaZone is now available online. I co-presented with Oleg Zhurakousky, colleague and co-committer on Spring Integration. If you'd like a quick look, check it - and all the other great videos on the JavaZone Vimeo page - out!
Fresh from SpringOne2GX, I'm in Arlington, VA, working with developers who want to get started with Cloud Foundry. This is a hands on event, and many of my colleagues and I are here to help developers get started.
My aunt Sandra passed gentle into that good night, yesterday morning, from complications of ALS. Sandra raised my sister and I as children like her very own every summer for years and years in her home of Salem, Oregon. She raised her own beautiful family. She worked her entire life and made a good living for herself all the while donating substantial time and money to church and charity. She took students in as part of foreign exchanges, mentored children at schools and at the YMCA, where she was a swimming teacher and swam thrice weekly up until last year, in her late 70s. She took me to Paris and London for the first time, and showed me what a quick flight across the ocean could do. She's the reason I speak French (and other languages), and the reason I enjoy so many privileges in this life. Sandra was brave and adventurous. She'd visited by cruise or by plane almost all the ports on earth and over 75+ different countries in her long life. She never went into anything with assumptions. She never let a bad situation stand, always attempting to fix it or better it. She was unpretentious. The matriarch of my dad's side of the family. A true family Matriarch. Sandra was the best of us, and I'll miss her with all my heart. RIP Aunt Sandra.
I was in Aarhus, Denmark last week and gave my talk on using Cloud Foundry, and then spoke in the evening at the local Java User Group as a special guest, which was awesome. The only regrettable thing was that Anders Hjelsberg was concurrently giving his talk introducing TypeScript, which meant I couldn't see it. So, I watched it today in the background while I was wrestling with expense reports. Check out the link to Microsoft's Channel 9 where you can watch the video.
The other N.*?SQL shoe has dropped. Google seems to have discovered the Goldilocks database: it's fast, and transactional. In short, it's juuuust right. I haven't had the time to read the paper, but it seems very interesting!
I've moved to San Francisco, CA! Found a nice place in Nob Hill for the king's ransom of 300% of what I was paying in Pasadena, CA, just a few weeks earlier. Anyway... I only mention this because... I'm in town. Let's grab a drink and talk Spring and Cloud Foundry. JUGs? Meetups? Hackathons? Let's do all the meetups. Plus, this has the additional benefit of putting me in town for more of the awesome events / meetings with my SpringSource colleagues! Life is so good sometimes.
I'll be speaking at the Aarhus, Denmark Java User Group on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 17:00-19:00. I'll be talking about Spring and Multi Client Development and giving a Cloud Foundry Bootcamp. I hope to see you there!
If you guys want to know when and where I'll be speaking next, feel free to check out my Lanyrd.com page, which usually has information about which shows I'll be at and where. In fact, some times I check it out and learn of my obligations before I've been told!
