I'll be speaking at the GOTO conference in Aarhus, Denmark, from October 1-3 talking about Cloud Foundry, the open-source PaaS from VMWare. If you're at the show, I'd love to meet you! We can talk all things Spring, and Cloud Foundry, or just throw back a beer. Ping me on Twitter (@starbuxman)

"Who loves Spring and has two thumbs? ...This guy!"

I was asked recently how I might suggest going about learning a framework (like Spring). I replied in an email and I reproduce most of that email below.

I just returned from the Cloud Foundry Open Tour in India (in Pune and Bangalore) where I gave my talk Multi Client Development with Spring MVC and helped with the bootcamp (along with my pal Raja Rao). The trip was astonishing - my third trip to India this year! - and the food was even better. We spent a lot of time talking to people about building modern applications, including how to architect applications for cloud-scale.

If you've been following my tweets in the last two months, you know I've been bouncing around India and China. Actually, in China, you would've noticed the lack of tweets, as Twitter's blocked there.

I put together a quick walking tour of Spring 3.1. The code is available on my GitHub account. It runs on a Servlet 3 container, and demonstrates how to build a completely XML free (no persistence.xml, no web.xml, no orm.xml, etc.) application that uses Hibernate 4, Spring 3.1, and Spring MVC 3.1. It shows how to build everything from a transactional service to a RESTful endpoint.

Looking forward to presenting my talk on Integration and Batch Processing with Cloud Foundry tomorrow at Spring IO 2012.

You know what I want? A Google Music API. I feel like Google Music's still the leader. Apple's iCloud just kind of leaves me cold. It not only stinks of lock -in, but it's not even particularly flexible. Where's my .ogg support?
