My amazing adventure in Shanghai, China is almost up. I return home to the US on January 31, and must wind down my time here. As part of that, I need to finish my amazing stash 'o iced coffee drinks that I've only found here in China. I don't know if you know this about me, but I love coffee. And yes, before you ask, that really is the bedspread they gave me at this hotel in Shanghai. @_@
I have been super sick these last two days. I ate some bad alcohol or food in my new year's eve celebrations and paid for it by spending the last two days in the bathroom. It has been ugly!
Just bought some ramen at the store. I love that it comes with a serving bowl. I know you're thinking, "but, who wouldn't... have.. a bowl?" And the answer is: I didn't have a bowl! But now I do. Problem solved. The Chinese think of everything!
I just wanted to state the obvious: I wish you all a wonderful and happy new year, and hope your 2012 has been as awesome as can be. Mine sure was! Here's to 2013! This year I'll ring in the new year in Shanghai, which should be interesting!
I hope you guys will permit me some time on the ol' soapbox. My life is amazing, and I'm very fortunate. I haven't really done enough charity this year, though, if I'm honest.
I'm back in Shanghai after the amazing SpringOne China and SpringOne India events. Had an odd encounter today. While there are no doubt many visitors to Shanghai, and China in general, you'd be forgiven for wondering where they are. They tend to be drowned out in the throngs of locals.
Booking.com has announced that they've re-written the Java-based YUI Compressor using Perl. I'm used to seeing people talking about rewriting systems written in Java into other languages like Python, C, C#, Haskell, Erlang, Scala, Groovy, etc. If I'm honest I just haven't seen many new Perl programs except buried in people's system administration logic and, of course, Puppet.
